So club-kidz, getting tired of the same-old and I find my musical interests strangely bifurcating...on my left hand is electro/electroclash/indietronica&pop and on my right hand is dark electro...what's your stance on new music and the proliferation of mutually exclusive sub-genres that are somewhat fragmenting the scene?

*Bump* This here is what we call a discussion thread so do give your opinion. Actually I am interested to know the range in your tastes. This is because the last time we did *Swirl*, those with alternative and indie tastes out-numbered those preferring strictly goth. Now granted, there was alot going on that night - New Wave City's Zombie prom and VNV Nations, but I found myself turning ever-so more towards the non-dark side.

Hmm, I myself tend to be pretty eclectic, as long as the style, 'mood' of the lyrics and style are Darkish. For dancing I can go from Haunted and flowing, to high energy cybergothy-industrial. This also is dependent on my level of intoxication. Although I do like experimental, other alternative, indie, and avante garde...in a night club setting I like alot of dancable, or 'semi dancable' (intoxication can work out the rest) music to make my night.

When it comes to music I'm pretty easy; I will listen to just about anything except rap, hip-hop and classic chinese opera (of what I've heard, the instrumentation hurts my ears, but the vocials are fine). In a club, if I can dance to it then I'm happy. So far you haven't played much, if any, that I consider undancable, so ...

My musical tastes start from one side of the spectrum and and wind up on the other side in just minutes flat.

Just now I was listening to some Dr. Dre, which then led into a very bouncy tune from Pop Will Eat Itself, and now I am listening to a more upbeat, dancy Siouxsie song. Not that this kind of playlist would hold up in a club. As a matter of fact, I've only ever been to one club where I heard Siouxsie and Snoopy. I've never danced so much in my life as I did at that club.

Well I like the open attitude so far, as you can well imagine dark DJs get bored spinning the same things after awhile and *should* intermix to keep it fresh. I find myself incorporating more electro than powernoise though. But I am sure you will keep me grounded with requests!

I always enjoy new music, with the exception of opera for some reason. Lately it's been goa and trip-hop that have caught my attention, but as I realised at Perversion in Los Angeles on Thursday night, I really love the less hard goth music (they were playing a bit too much industrial/faster stuff in the rooms I was in). In general, I think the best thing to do is mix it up between genres with good music to dance to ranging from fast to middling pace, and in goth clubs you can get away with slower ethereal music or other slower tracks that people will happily dance too.
